Organist Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

The role of the Organist at the Church of the Holy Spirit is to help support the Associate Director of Choral Music (ADOCM) and the Director of Family Ministries with regards to our traditional worship service and Children’s Family Service. They are to help the Church, and our surrounding community, ‘to know the love of Jesus and to make his love known’ through musical worship on Sunday mornings and beyond. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Play weekly at our 9:00 AM Traditional Service of Holy Eucharist

• Playing weekly at our 10:45 AM Children's Family Service 

• Accompany choral members, or a choir, at Church of the Holy Spirit’s 9 AM choral service on Sundays

• Playing at special services on:

• Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Maundy Thursday

• Combined services under the leadership of our Director of Music Ministries, approximately three times each year 

• Playing for funerals and weddings (these are very occasional and receive additional payment)

• Accompany Children's Choir rehearsals once they begin

• Accompany Adult Choir rehearsals once they begin

• Help organize classical concerts to be held in the church at least two times each year

• Keep our organ in good shape

• When necessary, help find substitutes with direction from our ADOCM

• Weekly practice time on the church organ 

• AGO membership (paid for by Holy Spirit), and attendance at meetings

• Hymns will be picked by ADOCM, and preludes, postludes and anthems will be done in consultation with ADOSM

OPTIONAL:

• If gifted at teaching, teach one (or multiple) day(s), at our after school Music Academy to help develop clear pipelines between between DIMA’s students and all Church of the Holy Spirit worship ministries (for additional remuneration)

ACCOUNTABILITY: 

The Organist is directly accountable to the the Associate Director for Choral Music, who in turn is accountable to the Director of Music Ministries, overseeing all choral and contemporary music, and our Music Academy

TIME EXPECTATIONS:

Approximately 5 hours/week (3.5 on Sunday morning, 8:15-11:45am, 1 hr practice time during the week, and 0.5 for monthly staff meeting) or 20 hours per month, with the expectation that this role will grow to at least 8-10 hours per week, and 32-40 hours per month. 

OTHER EXPECTATIONS:

• Submit to and follow the leadership of the Rector

• Learn and support Holy Spirit’s vision and mission statements

• Sign the Diocesan doctrinal statement

• Complete all child protection training required by our Diocese

• Be a part of a weekly Holy Spirit Life Group or small group at another church

• Attend at least one Staff meeting per month (there are two)

• Communicate any grievances, concerns, or other feedback to the ADOCM or Rector

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Growing commitment to the Lord, the Christian faith, the body of Christ, and God’s work in the world.  

• Ability to work effectively with youth and adults, exhibiting creativity, understanding and patience.

• Ability to verbally articulate personal faith and a Christian worldview.  
  

SALARY:

$350 per week, plus $350 additional pay for each of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Maundy Thursday (expected annual pay of $19,250) 

20 hours per month, 4 paid weeks of vacation each year, including 4 Sundays off (excluding Holy Week, Easter, and Christmas) 

CLASSIFICATION:

Part-time salary, eligible for overtime

Church of the Holy Spirit is looking for a choral singer/vocalist to help lead worship music at our 9 AM Traditional Communion service every Sunday morning.

Hours: 8:15-10:15 Sundays (includes rehearsal

Audition required.

Daniel Island Music Academy, a ministry of Church of the Holy Spirit, is now hiring music instructors who are available one or multiple afternoons Monday-Thursday from 3-6 PM. Instructors may teach guitar, piano, voice, ukulele, drums, and/or bass. We are looking for instructors who would specialize in working with younger kids and also instructors who would specialize in working with older students.

Church of the Holy Spirit is seeking a caring, dependable Nursery Worker to serve 2+ Sundays per month from 8:30 AM–12:00 PM. Additional opportunities available for occasional evening events.

Details:

1. $20/hr

2. Must be 18+

3. Care for children 4 months–Kindergarten

4. CPR/First Aid certification a plus (training available if not certified)

5. Background check and Praesidium Sexual Abuse Awareness Training required

Holy Spirit Island School (HIS), a ministry of Church of the Holy Spirit, is now hiring preschool teachers, assistant teachers, and substitute teachers.
